Distortion effects of several cumulant-based wiener filtering algorithms

چکیده
Some Single-Microphone Speech Enhancement algorithms based on the iterative Wiener filtering Method due to LimOppenheim [2] are evaluated. In the original Lim-Oppenheim algorithm, AR spectral estimation of speech is carried out using a second-order analysis, but our algorithms consider an AR estimation from a cumulant analysis. This work extends some preceding papers due to the authors [4], [5]. Thirdand fourth-order cumulant-based algorithms are compared to classical second-order one. This comparison is evaluated by considering three different noisy environments. A detailed study based on a frame-by-frame analysis leads to an optimum iteration of each algorithm as a trade-off between noise reduction and distortion effects. Voiced and unvoiced sounds are separately discussed. We conclude that third-order cumulant-based algorithm offers a more valuable performance than the others.

Comparison of Different Order Cumulants in a Speech Enhancement System by Adaptive Wiener Filtering
We estudy some speech enhancement algorithms based on the iterative Wiener filtering method due to Lim-Oppenheim [2], where the AR spectral estimation of the speech is carried out using a second-order analysis. But in our algorithms we consider an AR estimation by means of a cumulant (thirdand fourth-order) analysis. This work extends some preceding papers due to the authors, providing a behavi...
متن کاملSpeech Enhancement Using Gaussian Mixture Models, Explicit Bayesian Estimation and Wiener Filtering
Gaussian Mixture Models (GMMs) of power spectral densities of speech and noise are used with explicit Bayesian estimations in Wiener filtering of noisy speech. No assumption is made on the nature or stationarity of the noise. No voice activity detection (VAD) or any other means is employed to estimate the input SNR. The GMM mean vectors are used to form sets of over-determined system of equatio...
متن کاملOn the optimal linear filtering techniques for noise reduction
Noise reduction, which aims at extracting the clean speech from noisy observations, has plenty of applications. It has attracted a considerable amount of research attention over the past several decades. Although many methods have been developed, the most widely used one, by far, is the optimal linear filtering technique, which achieves clean speech estimate by passing the noisy observation thr...
متن کاملSpeech enhancement based on hypothesized Wiener filtering
We propose a novel speech enhancement technique based on the hypothesized Wiener filter (HWF) methodology. The proposed HWF algorithm selects a filter for enhancing the input noisy signal by first ‘hypothesizing’ a set of filters and then choosing the most appropriate one for the actual filtering. We show that the proposed HWF can intrinsically offer superior performance to conventional Wiener ...
متن کاملChannel Equalizer Design Based on Wiener Filter and Least Mean Square Algorithms
This paper investigates the Wiener and least mean square (LMS) algorithms in the design of traversal tap delay line filters for the purpose of compensating the effect of the communication channel. The designed equalizers remove the distortion caused by the channel from the transmitted signal without requiring any specific model or state-space information. The first approach is based on the a re...
